High index lenses are lenses with a refractive index greater than 1.52. These can be lenses with an index of 1.6, 1.67 or 1.74. They are especially recommended for people with a visual impairment greater than +/- 2.00 D and who want to enjoy aesthetic, thin, but also light lenses. The elimination of significant lens thickness is not the only advantage of high-index materials. An important feature is also the minimization of the enlargement (in the case of plus lenses) or reduction (in the case of minus lenses) of the eyes of the person wearing glasses. High-index lenses are available as single vision and progressive lenses, clear, tinted, as Transitions photochromes and with all available special coating variants, e.g. blue light blocker or night driving.
Advantages of high-index lenses:
- reducing the thickness of high-power lenses,
- lightness,
- minimizing the effect of enlarging / reducing the eyes,
- concealing a high vision defect,
- greater freedom in choosing eyeglass frames,
- aesthetics and comfort of using the glasses.
